THE TEMA Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has temporarily handed over some community–based health planning and service (CHPS) compounds to the Tema Health Directorate to immediately start offering out-patients department (OPD) services which have been withdrawn by members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

Although the three CHPS compounds at Adjetey Ansah, U-Compound in Tema Newtown and Adjei-Kojo are yet to be completed, the assembly believes operating the facilities instantly would go a long way to mitigate the effect of the strike by the doctors on residents of Tema and its environs.

The assembly has mentioned how it intends to collaborate with the Tema Metro Health Directorate and retired doctors to engage them to handle the facilities in order to lessen the impact of the strike on patients who may be seeking medical attention.

Isaac Ashai-Odamtten, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), speaking during inspection of the projects last Tuesday, mentioned that the TMA would do everything possible to improve upon the healthcare system within the metropolis.

He commended the effort of the Metro Health Directorate for assisting to reduce the untold hardship on its residents, as efforts were being made to furnish the facilities.

Dr John Yabani, the Tema Metropolitan Health Director, said his outfit is ready to post medical professionals to such facilities.

He advised the communities to get closer to the CHIP compounds for medical advice, congratulating the TMA for expediting action to reduce the effect of the strike on patients.
