Baba Rahman’s move to Chelsea is on the verge of being completed after Augsburg’s sporting executive said he had passed a medical in London.
Stefan Reuter told Sky News Germany that the defender had successfully gone through his tests.
Rahman, 21, featured for Augsburg in their 3-1 DFB-Pokal win at Elversberg last Friday, but is now poised to leave after only one season.
Late last month, sources told ESPN FC that Chelsea were confident of securing a deal for Rahman, and the Ghana left-back’s agent said last week that personal terms had been agreed.
According to media reports Chelsea have agreed a deal worth up to €30 million, including all add-ons.
On Tuesday, local paper Augsburger Allgemeine reported that Rahman did not train with his teammates but was still at the Augsburg training ground.
He trained individually behind closed doors, with his club hoping to avoid any last-minute injury that could have led to the transfer collapsing.
Rahman joined Augsburg for €2.5m from second tier club Greuther Furth last summer.
Furth are set to also profit from the transfer, with Augsburger Allgemeine reporting that they will receive around 25 percent of the transfer fee.
Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl praised his staff ahead of Rahman’s move, saying: “I would like to continue working with all players — but when you sign someone like Baba from the second division and he’s on Chelsea’s radar 12 months later it does make the coaching staff proud.”
