THE DISTRICT Governor of Boss Friendship Club (BFC), Nigeria, Dr Edet B. Ekpenyong, has underscored the need for peaceful co-existence.

According to him, esteeming friendship and peaceful co-existence of humanity is the generally acceptable means of sustainable development.

In his address at the celebration of this year’s United Nations (UN) International Day of Friendship held in Accra last week, Dr Ekpenyong pointed out that UN’s proclamation of July 30 as the official day for international friendship suggests the importance of promoting friendly fellowship among all human beings, regardless of their race, colour and religion.

He revealed that the International Day of Friendship, put together by BFC in Ghana, was an important opportunity to confront the misunderstandings and distrust that underlie many of the tensions and conflicts in the world.

The district governor buttressed his point by quoting Woodrow Wilson saying, “Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together.

“Setting a day aside as International Day of Friendship is a reminder that human solidarity is essential in promoting lasting peace and fostering sustainable development which is the new agenda of the United Nations global development plan.”

Some high profile leaders from Ghana and Nigeria were given special awards at the function aimed at encouraging international friendship and peaceful co-existence of humankind within the comity of nations.

BFC is an initiative which offers chief executive officers a platform to press home their demands and make their voices heard in matters of public interest.
