Government has resumed negotiations with the leadership of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

The President of the GMA, Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei has said he expects progress to be made by next week regarding their conditions of service.

The GMA met with government on Monday after doctors returned to work today. Present at today’s meeting was the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrissu, Health Minister Alex Segbefia, Deputy Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson and officials from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

The doctors on Friday called off their three week old strike. In an interview with Citi News, Dr Opoku Adusei revealed that the GMA will continue dialoguing with government, although he did not disclose when the parties would meet again.

“As we’ve told you previously, we had to call off the meeting so that we could start negotiations. Negotiations started, we started new ground rules, and we hope that by the weekend something better might come up.

We are still meeting, we met all the three ministers, and the cordial relationship and I think it’s okay, we are always ready for negotiations. By Monday we might have made substantial progress,” he added.
