President Mahama getting onboard a bulldozer to cut the sod
President John Dramani Mahama, yesterday cut the sod for start of work on the Benchima – Ajuako-Oseikojokrom road in the northern part of the Western Region.
That project forms part of the $150 million Cocoa Roads Project being constructed in six cocoa regions across the country.
The Cocoa Roads Project is an initiative of the Ghana Cocoa Board to reconstruct a number of feeder roads in cocoa growing areas to reduce the difficulties farmers face in transporting their produce.
Other roads to be constructed under the project in the region include the Anyinabrem – Sui – Bodi; Akontombra-Bodi-Juaboso; Akontombra – Sefwi Wiawso, Enchi – Dadieso, Juaboso – Dadieso and Sefwi Wiawso – Asawinso roads.
President Mahama noted that all cocoa growing areas in the country would benefit from this initiative by the Ghana Cocoa Board.
He admitted that good roads were critical to the development of every nation, hence government’s determination to ensure that enough funds are dedicated to that sector.
He charged the indigenes to put the contractors working on the roads on their toes as money has already been made available for the project.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini indicated that COCOBOD was supporting his Ministry to use roads infrastructure to reduce poverty.
He revealed that in all, a total of 105 kilometres of roads would be constructed under the Cocoa Roads Project across the country.
The Chiefs and people in the area were grateful to the government for the many development projects being undertaken in their towns.
