A rare opportunity has presented itself to amateur caterers, tertiary catering students as well as housewives in the country to exhibit their cooking skills.
Beginning next month, October, 50 contestants will vie for honours in a special cooking reality show put together by Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Onga seasoning.
At stake for the ultimate winner is GH¢10,000, a three month internship at a five-star hotel and GH¢5,000 worth of cooking utensils.
The first runner up would be rewarded with GH¢6,000 plus GH¢3,000 worth of cooking appliances with the second runner-up taking GH¢4,000 and GH¢2,000 worth of cooking appliances.
Prospective applicants are requested to submit their own exceptional recipe plus a photo of the finished dish with any Onga product to ghanacooks@gmail.com.
Additionally, they are expected to include two pictures of themselves, one passport size and one full length along with a short profile about themselves.
Top-notch judges comprising Chef Gary Lane and Chef John Oduro together with a yet-to-be named chef will select 12 contestants for the competition.
The contestants will earn a ‘Ghana Cooks Challenge’ apron to signify their qualification into the competition.
The finalists will undergo workshops and grooming each week with seasoned professional chefs from top hotels and restaurants in the country.
Each week, the contestants will compete individually and in groups and would be faced with weekly eviction as the competition which would be screened on GTV progresses.
Contestants will cook from destinations like market squares and town centres to farms, ranches, beaches, among others, intended to eliminate the stiff studio look.
It is a reality cooking competition for amateur cooks and it is Ghana’s version of Master Chef, a series that has thrilled viewers in over 33 countries.
