The world’s first American Nollywood film, ‘Pastor Paul Revival Revue’ – starring Wanlov the Kubolor and Funsho Ogundipe of the acclaimed Afrobeat/Jazz band, Ayetoro, will on Saturday, September 26 be premiered at the Alliance Française in Accra.

It is a feature film that centres on the activities of a white tourist in West Africa who is possessed by a ghost after acting in a Nollywood movie.

Directed by Jules David Bartkowski, the inspiration for the film was conceived in 2012 after the director noticed that Nollywood movies often depict various traditional African practices, including the activities of priests and priestesses.

Filmed in Ghana and Nigeria in 2013, ‘Pastor Paul’ explores the intersection of new African cinema – Christianity and witchcraft – while lampooning classic images of the Whiteman in Africa, whether he is a tourist, missionary, actor or ghost.

Stylistically, the director tried to pace the movie in such a way as to slowly turn this character’s life as a tourist in Africa into one that feels emotionally and cinematically like a Nollywood film.

The premiere will be followed by a concert that will feature some members of the cast, including Wanlov Kubolor, Yaa Pono and Lady J.
