TWO PERSONS narrowly escaped death Monday morning when a tipper truck collided with a saloon car near the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) in Tema, the Greater Accra Region.

The accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Corolla saloon car registered, GW 2959-15, reportedly attempted to overtake four vehicles along the Valco-Kpone road and crashed into the Huni Suno tipper truck with registration number GN 2391-13.

Though no death was recorded, the yet-to-be-identified two injured men on board the saloon car were reported to be in critical conditions.

It took the intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Tema to rescue the trapped persons in the car before they were rushed to the Emergency Unit of the Tema General Hospital for medical attention.

Francis Ahiator, an eyewitness of the accident which occurred at about    8:30 am, explained that the driver of the tipper truck was coming from the Tema direction to Kpone while the saloon car was heading towards the opposite direction.

Upon reaching a sharp curve in front of the Chase Petroleum yard, according to the eyewitness, the tipper driver was said to have spotted the Toyota at top speed coming towards him using his (truck driver’s) lane. Abedey Nartey, said to be the driver of the truck, attempted to swerve into the other lane but could not and so the Toyota rammed into the truck and got trapped under it.

When DAILY GUIDE arrived at the scene, the police were yet to visit the place as the two people on board the saloon car had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The front of the Toyota Corolla was damaged beyond repairs and the tipper truck had part of its bumper damaged.

More people were also seen at the scene to catch a glimpse of the serious accident.
