A rainstorm that hit Whindo in the Kwesimitsim Constituency of the Western Region recently resulted in the roofing sheets of Whindo Methodist Kindergarten (KG) being ripped off.

The incident adversely affected academic work in the school as it forced the pupils to sit under a shed in the scorching sun to study.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Joe Baidoo-Ansah therefore did not hesitate when the authorities of the school approached him for assistance.

The MP quickly footed the bill of the roofing of the building at the cost of GH¢8,500 to rescue the pupils from their ordeal.

Speaking to journalists the assistant head teacher of Whindo Methodist Primary, Martin Gyamfi noted that the school had no choice than to hold classes in a dilapidated shed that posed serious threat to the lives of the pupils.

He pointed out that it was difficult for the pupils to learn in such an environment since it would not give them the sound mind they needed to study.

He indicated that several reports to the various appropriate quarters to fix the problem fell on deaf ears apart from the MP who had so far assisted the school with some cash which had been used to purchase roofing sheets and nails to re-roof the school block.

Mr Gyamfi regretted that most of the residents around had turned the school into a refuse dump and defecating grounds.

“Some drivers also use the school field as a place for teaching their colleagues how to drive which had made the once green field looking like a desert”, he asserted.

He stated “Some recalcitrant guys also smoke Indian hemp also called ‘wee’ at the school when it closes”.

He therefore appealed to the traditional leaders and other institutions in the area to assist fence the school to prevent unscrupulous people from entering after close of school.
