ACTIVISTS OF the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly have called for the immediate dismissal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Nurudeen Hamidan.
They have accused the MCE of being arrogant, self-centred and power-drunk, grabbing pieces of land and properties of some residents without recourse to the law.
In a protest march to vent their anger yesterday, the NDC activists called on President John Mahama to remove Nurudeen Hamidan from office as he was abusing his position.
“He has arrogated to himself powers outside his authority as MCE, grabbing people’s lands using arm-twisting tactics,” one of the protesters, who gave his name as Ibrahim, told DAILY GUIDE.
According to him, one of such properties is Plot 10A, Block T at Akorem which the MCE was burnt on taking over because of its strategic location.
The protesters said Mr. Hamidan was hiding behind the assembly to grab the said plot which belongs to a businessman who acquired the 0.14 acre land from the Konadu Yiadom stool.
“He has deprived many people of similar lands and this development does not augur well for the NDC in the Asawase Constituency, and that is why we want him to go,” the activist posited.
They indicated that the MCE’s high-handedness had the potential to derail the fortunes of the NDC in the constituency since some of the residents consider him to be an embodiment of the ruling party.
The demonstrators, who were holding several placards demanding Mr. Hamidan’s immediate dismissal, claimed the MCE had become boisterous, treating people with contempt.
Some of the placards, with the inscriptions: “Greedy MCE,” “Nuru Must Go,” “Power-drunk MCE,” among others, added colour to the protest march, which was embarked upon by a sizeable crowd of party members and supporters.
