The Western Naval Command has held its Fourth Quarter Religious and Induction Service for Commodore Peter Kofi Faidoo, as the new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the Western Naval Command.
The induction, which was a non-denominational thanksgiving service, took place at the Drill Shed at the Sekondi Naval Base.
Commodore Faidoo took over as the new FOC of the Western Naval Command on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from Commodore Godson Zorwoono at a colourful ceremony at the Naval Base.
The new Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command was enlisted into the Ghana Military Academy as a Naval Cadet and graduated on July 31, 1981 as the best Naval Cadet.
He then proceeded to the Brittania Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, United Kingdom where he emerged the best international student.
Commodore Faidoo was once appointed Executive Officer of the Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) DZATA. His other sea tour included Commanding GNS SEBO. He also commanded GNS ACHIMOTA and GNS YOGAGA at various times.
Performing the induction ceremony, Rev Fr. Commander Abeiku Anaman charged Commodore Peter Faidoo to be faithful and dedicated to God in the discharge of his duties.
Preaching the sermon, Rev Prof Eric Anum, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, noted that leadership comes with a lot of challenges.
He indicated that some of the challenges would be very difficult to handle but if leaders sought the face of God, they would always be successful in their administration.
He posited that it takes tact and good courage to be successful in a top position and called on the new FOC to be courageous as he was going to head a human institution which would come with its problems.
In his remarks, Commodore Peter Kofi Faidoo, commended his predecessor for setting an enviable precedence of raising the image of the Western Naval Command to high standards.
He thanked GAF High Command for giving him the opportunity to serve the Ghana Navy and Ghana at large and promised to also continue the good work his forerunner had done to keep the Navy flag high.
He indicated that in the military, the safety, honour and welfare of the state comes first before that of his personnel and family. He therefore pledged to exhibit professionalism, fairness and honesty in his work and make sure what is due his men is given to them.
The guest of honour at the ceremony was Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area.
