FORMER PRESIDENT of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Alhaji Sidiku Buari, has urged the entire executives of the union to create employment opportunities for musicians to enable them to make ends meet.

Alhaji Sidiku Buari was speaking at a ceremony organised by MUSIGA at the British Council to swear into office its newly-elected national executives for a four-year term last Friday.

He advised the entire executives of MUSIGA to work extra hard to improve the living standards of all the members in Ghana.

The former MUSIGA president disclosed that during his era, his administration was able to assist a large number of Ghanaian musicians, adding that he did his best to make sure musicians enjoyed the fruit of their labour.

He stressed that the leadership of the union should equip the 10 regional offices of the union with musical equipment to enable members of the union to organise their own musical events to raise funds for themselves and also for the union.

Alhaji Sidiku Buari, however, urged stakeholders in the music industry to learn to accommodate and tolerate one another and try to eschew personality clashes that have existed in the music industry for so many years.

He mentioned that MUSIGA and Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) can help musicians and composers in organising workshops, showcases, having other exclusive tailor-made benefit packages that include health and instrument insurance, credit unions, discounts on musical accessories, among many others.

Alhaji Sidiku Buari again advised the management of GHAMRO to practise an open-door policy to enable the views and concerns of the stakeholders to be taken into account before any decision is taken.
