A 31-year old illegal miner Abdul Mohammed has been arrested for killing a 26-year old pregnant woman for ritual purposes.
The incident according to police investigators happened at Jantutu a farming community in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region.
Amina Amadu the deceased was going to Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region for antenatal care through Mankango where she was expected to use the ferry in crossing to the other side of the river.
The suspect, who spotted the deceased at a distance, got closer and offered her a lift with his motorbike to the bank of the river to enable her join the pontoon.
But midway into their journey towards Mankango, he branched into the bush and hacked Amina Amadu severally with a cutlass till she bled to death.
He then cut her clitoris and shaved her pubic hair for ritual purposes and abandoned the body in the bush. Some residents on their way to farm days later spotted the lifeless body of the deceased.
The matter was immediately reported to the Salaga police and after investigations the suspect was arrested. He admitted the crime in his caution statement claiming the pubic hair and clitoris were demanded by a ritualist for concoction to fortify him(Abdul).
According to him, the said spiritual guardian indicated that the clitoris of a pregnant woman and her pubic hair were urgently required for the ritual and would suffer the consequences if he failed to produce the items after some days.
The fortification exercise he revealed was to protect him against immediate death, forces of darkness and as well as endow him with the potency to discovering gold in large quantities in the area ahead of his colleague miners.
The body of the deceased had since been deposited at the St. Mathias Catholic Hospital at Yeji while the suspect was on Thursday arraigned before a Salaga district magistrate court and remanded into prison custody to reappear on July 29, 2015.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) who confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE disclosed that a post mortem would be conducted on the body before it would be released to the bereaved family for burial.
