Parliament has failed to persuade the leadership of the Ghana Medical Association to call off their strike and resume negotiations over their conditions of service.
Doctors withdrew out-patient services on Thursday, July 30 as the first step to their mass resignation from the public sector, accusing government of ignoring their calls for proper conditions of service.
The doctors on Friday withdrew their services for emergency cases as they begin the second phase of their mass resignation process.
Speaking after the meeting with the Parliamentary select committee on Health, Dr. Justice Yankson, deputy general secretary for the Ghana Medical Association said they made it clear to the committee that until their issues are resolved, they would not call off the strike.
“Where we are there is nothing like going back to work…we have to deal with the issues and they also don’t want this done without a proper resolution of the matter…there is no pressure on us to work, what we are asking of is simple, just provide our conditions of service, that is it”.
