The Newmont team, Deputy Sports Minister pose with the dummy cheque after the presentation
Mining giant Newmont Gold Ghana Limited is the latest company to support Ghana’s contingent at the All African Games (AAG) in Congo.
A high-powered Newmont delegation led by Johan Ferreira, Regional Senior Vice President, Africa Operations, presented a cheque for GH¢100,000 to the Youth and Sports Ministry for the purpose of supporting Ghana’s athletes at the event.
At an impressive presentation ceremony in Accra on Thursday, Ferreira pointed out that “we passionately believe in the economic and human capacity development of our people and host communities and in support of this belief, our widely acclaimed Development Foundation at Ahafo and Akyem have part of their funds dedicated to developing sports within our host communities.”
He added: “… As part of our commitment to developing innate talent and promoting sports excellence, we are donating GH¢100,000 to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to support Ghana’s talented sportsmen and women’s participation in the All African Games in Congo Brazzaville.”
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah expressed appreciation for the gesture and appealed to the donors to consider establishing a sports complex in their working environment in the Brong Ahafo Region.
