The hospitality industry in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region continues to grow by the day with the emergence of new hotels and guest houses, probably because of the booming oil and gas business in the area.
The latest hotel to enter the market, promising to deliver quality services fashioned along international standards, is Kingstel Hotel, located at Apollo, near Takoradi.
Cut out for the business and the leisure traveller, the 3-star hotel facility has 60 ultra-modern rooms made up of Standard, Deluxe, Superior Deluxe and an Executive Suite. It also has high speed cable and wireless Internet.
Speaking at the brief official inauguration of the facility, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, indicated that these days, hotels are not for tourism purposes alone, but also for business activities.
He pointed out that Sekondi-Takoradi has become a hub of the oil and gas industry in the West African sub-region and implored business men and women to take advantage of that and establish businesses in the area.
The current Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Seth Terkper, commended the Chief Executive Officer of Kingstel hotel, Nana Poku, for creating job opportunities for Ghanaians.
He challenged Ghanaian businesses to venture into areas that would promote more exports to complement efforts being made by people in the traditional extractive industry and the cocoa sub-sector.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Dzifa Gomashie, implored Ghanaians, particularly stakeholders in the hospitality industry, to help boost Ghana’s tourism receipts by selling the country through local dishes.
She urged stakeholders to promote Ghanaian dishes, stressing that such effort would boost the country’s tourism sector.
Some other dignitaries who graced the occasion included, DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander; Lt Col GK Tawiah Sam, Commander of the 2nd Battalion of Infantry, Apremdo near Takoradi and Cdr. Godson Zowonoo, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command.
