
A TOTAL of 140 candidates have filed their nominations to contest the District Level Elections (DLE) in the Tema Metropolis.
The contenders comprised 129 males and 11 females who are gearing up for the elections slated for September 1, 2015.
270 candidates made up of 226 males and 44 females have also filed for the unit committee level elections as compared to 155 contenders which comprised 131 males and 24 females contesting the same elections at Kpone-Katamanso. A total of 54 candidates made up of 51 males and 3 females picked nomination forms to contest the assembly elections in the same area(Kpone-Katamanso).
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Watson Tizor Apentsui, Tema Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), mentioned that the district level elections is non-partisan and therefore entreated candidates to avoid campaigning on any political party platform or using colours of notable political parties on their posters.
He warned that anyone found culpable of electoral offences would be disqualified.
The Tema EC boss further urged candidates to desist from using intemperate languages and acts of violence in their campaign.
He said bad governance could lead to chaos and therefore urged the electorate to vote for competent and patriotic candidates who could manage the state resources judiciously.
Mr. Apentsui assured candidates and the public that EC will remain neutral in all elections at all times in order to win the confidence of the electorates.
